Day 6 Recap
We stopped for breakfast about 15 miles away from downtown Seattle. Aaron had wanted to find a place to stop for a couple hours, but he fell asleep so I just went until traffic slowed down and broke my rhythm.
From breakfast we headed straight downtown Seattle. Traffic was slow but not difficult…until we actually got to the city. The city streets in Seattle are easily the most confusing I have ever been on. We drove around the city for nearly an hour just looking around and looking for a good place to park. It wasn’t that bad though because we were able to see the city.
We parked near the waterfront and walked straight there. We were actually just north of downtown, so we were able to get a great view of the water and of downtown. The water was surprisingly clear for a major seaport.
From there we walked toward the Space Needle. There were a lot of coffee shops along the way, but I was surprised with how few Starbucks’ there were. There were more in Denver than in Seattle that I saw.
The Space Needle was well worth the trip. Seattle is a really nice looking city. It was cloudy, which lessened our view, but the vie was still great. The Space Needle is 510 feet high at the observation deck–about half as high as the Sears Tower, but I think I liked the view of Seattle better than that of Chicago.
We went to a coffee shop after the Space Needle and just relaxed there for awhile. There were a lot of people doing just that; I would have expected it to be a popular thing to do there in Seattle–it’s been a popular thing to do for a few hundred years. Aaron has been raving about the coffee throughout the Northwest. I don’t drink coffee, but I have to say the Italian soda from that coffee shop was second to none. There were a couple of unique museums near the space needle that we looked at–science fiction museum and music museum. The science fiction museum had actual props from movies and stuff in it.
Other than that, we walked around the city and went to the Pikes Place Market (the largest farmers’ market in the world–where they throw around the fish). There are a lot of unique shops there but nothing really useful to me. And there was a ton of fresh fish, but we had no way to cook it and had to pass it up. It seemed like it would be a good place to shop though if you lived in the area and could get there without paying for parking.
We headed back to the hotel around 6:00. We had planned to go back to the Fox Sports Grill to watch the NBA game, but after the drive to the hotel through traffic, neither of us really wanted to drive back through that; besides we realized that because of the time difference, the game would be nearly over by the time we could get there anyway. So we just got a pizza, watched the game, and fell asleep.

All that Seattle walking – the ankle must be better. That’s good!
